I just had to get out those 4" White Art Squares again today...

To create both of these cards, I used my Creative Dies (Penny Black 51-002 Leaves and 51-030 Field of Dreams) as stencils, applying the watercolors through the stencils and onto the Art Squares.  Once the main images were dry, I also painted the backgrounds.  Then once that was dry, I added subtle stamping to the background using Penny Black 30-238 Footnotes T for Transparent set.  I stamped using Rose Madder Ranger Archival Ink and Danube Blue Memento Ink, removing some ink from the stamp with a baby wipe before stamping.  Simple sentiments were added using Penny Black's Creative Dies, 51-025 Love Expressions.

Using one of my favorite combinations again:  Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors and Inchie Arts Art Squares.

Did you know that a 3" Art Square has miniatures hidden inside?  This particular square was divided into canvases measuring 2 x 3 and 1 x 3.  Just think how cute three 1 x 3 canvases would be too!

Penny Black's "Noble" was stamped on the 3" Art Square in Desert Sand Memento ink.  This gave the image subtle definition for me to add my own inspirational interpretation with the Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors.

After finishing the watercoloring, I let the Art Square dry completely before trimming it into two sections and adding a sentiment.

The pieces were mounted with dimensional foam tape to card bases created from heavyweight watercolor paper.

Picking up my drawing pencils and paint brushes to see what might be hidden in this Inchie Arts ATC Art Square.

She had so many beautiful thoughts that her hair blossomed into flowers.

Two ATC Inchie Art Squares were used for this tiny painting.  The first was used as a base for the sketch and the watercolors.  The second was trimmed to create a frame.

I love working with Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors as many levels of color intensity can be achieved.  As you can see, everything is possible from brilliant flowers to soft skin tones.

As you probably guessed from reading my previous posts and hearing about my affection for Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White, I did use it for the "starry" speckles.

The solid core of the Inchie Art Squares gives hand-cut frames a beautiful dimensional edge. They also provided a superb base on to which I could apply many layers of watercolors, clear gesso and medium gel mat without having to worry about the square warping or pilling.

I told you I thought I'd be having more watercolor fun with my Inchie Arts Art Squares; didn't I? :)  Today I'm working on a new 4" White Art Square.  Oh, how I love this size!

To create this card, I used Penny Black's Creative Die 51-008 Bashful, but instead of using the actual die cut on the card, I used the negative piece left over as a stencil.  Holding the "stencil" over my Art Square, I added my water and paints.  Once dry, I also painted the background.  To this Art Square I also added additional distressing once the paints were dry. I used Memento inks in the colors of Peanut Brittle and Northern Pine.  The polka dot background was stamped using Penny Black 30-238 Footnotes using Peanut Brittle ink.  Because of the 4" size of the Art Square, not much else was needed to finish off this card.  I added a stamped sentiment (Penny Black), May Arts twine, a few pearls, and mounted it to a white notecard.

Today I have a cute little ATC to share with you...

Because of the "juicy-ness" of the Dr. PH Martin's Hydrus Watercolors, I decided to use them with my Inchie Arts Art Squares as the quality surface allows one to add lots of water and layers without pilling or warping.

I began by stamping my image (Penny Black 40-293 Tulips for You) using Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a white ATC Art Square.  Because I wanted to have more control over the color and blending, when painting the image I added the paints from my palette directly to the Art Square without adding any additional water.  

But for a looser look for the sky, I first painted clean water around the image, and then added the paint and allowed the water to do the blending.

To finish off this ATC, I wrapped it with May Arts twine and called it a day.  I expect I will add this to a card in the near future. I also expect more Art Square and watercolor fun will be in my near future, too. ;)

Splashing my watercolors on a mini notebook.

Here's a peek inside where a small notepad is attached for those spur-of-the moment notes and ideas.

The notepad is attached with Tombow's Fastener Tabs.  No need to worry about running out of paper!  The back panel can easily have more sheets attached to create a refill.  Tip/Hint:  Mod Podge is fabulous for sealing the top edge of a tiny stack of note paper to create a custom pad.

  

The front cover consists of three layers of Penny Black's die cut "By the Numbers".  The top layer was cut from watercolor paper.  Layers of Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus watercolors and Medium Gel Mat were applied to the surface.  After the desired color intensity was achieved, random areas were scuffed with emerald metallic rub-ons and smudged with Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White.  The finished piece was staggered on a black die cut then a white die cut.  Tip/Hint: Offset layering is a great way to add depth as well as a shadow effect to an element.

The main base of the notebook was created from a piece of heavy cardstock covered in painter's tape.  Tim Holtz's printed tissue paper was applied with Medium Gel Mat before the watercolors were splashed on.  I grabbed my Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White again and used a paintbrush to "flick" speckles across the surface.

To seal all the paints and colorful goodness, the finished project was sprayed with Krylon's UV Resistant Clear (Matte) Acrylic Coating.

Today I am using a resist technique with the Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors.

Those fun, modern circles (Let's Chat by Penny Black) were stamped with Miskit to create the resist.

A tiny bit of Miskit was poured on a non-stick craft sheet and the stamp was "inked" by pouncing it in the liquid.  After the image was stamped and the Miskit dried, I added my watercolors. 

(Important Note:  Clean stamp as soon as you have finished stamping.)

Once the watercoloring was completed, the dried Miskit was rubbed away from the watercolor paper.

May Arts Ribbon was wrapped around a thin strip of cardstock for a textile embellishment.  This stiffened the ribbon allowing it to be elevated.

The second accent was created by stamping the chevron (Let's Chat) in two ink colors: Lilac Posies Memento Luxe and Aquatic Splash VersaMagic.  Tip/Hint:  By over lapping the stamping applications, a tricolor motif can be created.

The finished design was then stamped with a sentiment (Remember This) in Onyx Black VersaFine and then layered with Penny Black's Lattice White Embossed Paper on to a white card base.

I LOVED working with these BOLD and bright watercolors.  And to begin, I decided to do simple stamping and painting on both of my cards.

To create this card, I stamped my image (Penny Black 40-320 Charming) onto watercolor paper  using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I created my own palette of watercolors on a large acrylic block.  I could mix colors on this block, too.  When adding the paint to my image, I first painted clean water onto the area I wanted to color and then added the paints, allowing the layer of water to do the blending.  I also used this same painting technique to paint the background/sky. I really love the loose, artsy look it achieves.  And the Dr. PH Hyrus Watercolor stayed uber-vibrant when painting in this manner.

This card was created using the same techniques, although this time I used another favorite stamped image, Penny Black 40-323 Poppy Time.  I finished both cards by stamping my sentiments (Penny Black 30-244 Let's Chat) with VersaMark ink and heat embossing with white powder.  Finally, I added the watercolor panels to white notecards using dimensional adhesive.
