Double the Fun: Good Neighbors

 It's double the designing fun as we reveal two cards using the same Penny Black stamp, 40-439 Good Neighbors.

Zooming in on those Good Neighbors is just what I did for my sweet wish.  I selected a small portion of the stamp design as the focal point for the die cut frame.  After stamping the design in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, a quick splash of Copic colors were added.  A tiny sentiment finishes the design.

This image is PERFECT for watercoloring and that's just what I did for my card design.  Once the watercolors were dry, I also added a touch of Distress Ink around the edges and to the sky.  Easy-peasy and so relaxing! All stamps and dies by Penny Black: 40-439, 30-238, 51-218.

I hope you'll stop on by to say hi, my friends.  I love the idea behind this challenge and had fun answering a few questions, too.  Here's the inspiration photo.

And my card...

I made this card using the following Penny Black stamps/dies: 51-040 Hello, 30-238 Footnotes, 40-449 Light Touch.  

I began by coloring directly onto the flower stamp using Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I misted with water and stamped onto hot-press watercolor paper.  Using only water, I blended the stamped image with my paintbrush.  I used watercolors to paint the background.  I also used watercolors to add splatters to the background and Distress Ink (Wild Honey and Vintage Photo) around the edges.  The Distress Ink was applied using an ink blending tool and foam pad. The bottom edge was torn and layered onto white paper which was previously inked with Broken China and Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped with text.

Double the Fun: Saying A Latte!

 It's double the designing fun as we reveal two cards using the same Penny Black stamp, 40-456 Saying a Latte!. 

This stamped image was such fun to color with a combination of Shinhan Art Touch Twin markers and Copic markers.  Once I was finished coloring I fussy cut it so it could be layered onto my card panel along with some die cuts for extra dimension.  Both the upper and lower backgrounds were inked and stamped with Distress Inks.  And my final embellishments include a die cut border, sentiment tag, May Arts twine, and a self-adhesive pearl. (All stamps and dies by Penny Black: 40-456, 30-240, 51-191, 30-294, 40-135, 51-196, 51-181)

For my coloring, I used Prismacolor pencils which were blended using a blending stump and alcohol.  The image was then fussy cut so it could be popped out of a window backed with patterned paper.  Before the window frame piece was attached to the card front, a decorative border was die cut from the bottom portion.  A die cut tag with a inspirational sentiment completes the design.  (All stamps, patterned paper and dies by Penny Black: 40-456, 51-231, 51-027, 30-253,80-009) 

Double the Fun: Flower Pop Outs

 It's double the designing fun as we reveal two cards using the same Penny Black Creative Die, 51-230 Flower Pop Outs. 

My card is a simple white on white design.  Flower Pop Outs were die cut from a piece of white cardstock trimmed slightly smaller than the card base.  The tiny sentiment was stamped in Aspen Mist VersaMagic.  The panel was then attached to the card with dimensional foam tape and the flowers were accented with pearls.  All stamps and dies by Penny Black:  51-230, 30-358. 

To create my card, once I die cut Flower Pop Outs, I painted it with watercolors and embellished it with self-adhesive pearls.  I layered this with leaf die cuts and a Distress Inked and stamped sentiment panel.  The torn background was also inked with Distress Inks and lightly stamped. All stamps and dies by Penny Black: 51-230, 30-353, 30-348, 30-354, 51-120, 30-238.

Pretty Packaging II: Elizabeth's Inspiration

Pretty packaging is everywhere.  Clothing, food, jewelry and more all come wrapped in colorful designs that attract the eye.  They're also a great source of ideas.  Follow along with us as we show how packaging concepts inspire our artwork.

This dimensional packaging instantly spurred inspiration for me.  I loved the patterned design all over the box and decided to make something similar on a smaller scale.

These milk cartons were created in a miniature style for place setting gifts for a luncheon.

White cardstock was randomly blended with Mustard Seed Distress ink.  The flowers were stamped in Shabby Shutter Distress ink and each flower was colored with Tombow Dual Brush Pen #761.

After the pattern was traced on the newly stamped cardstock, the design was trimmed, scored and folded.  After inserting a small gift in each box, the tops were sealed closed.


A small flower and tag were die cut from white cardstock to create personalized tags for each box.  (To coordinate the die cut flower with the background pattern it was colored with the same marker as used above.)
